Cabinet minister Greg Clark has suggested that the business rates system could be overhauled to help high street retailers hit by the rise of online shopping.
The business secretary told a fringe event at the Conservative party conference that policymakers need to recognise the important role that local communities play in local communities. Adjusting business rates ‘will be one way of doing that’, he reportedly said.
