Minister refuses to rule out imposing asylum dispersal on councils

A minister has not ruled out forcing councils to take in asylum seekers, but said the option was not ‘desirable’.

Immigration minister Caroline Nokes told the Home Affairs Select Committee this afternoon there had been ‘pressure’ from some authorities to make the dispersal scheme mandatory – currently, councils put themselves forward voluntarily to accommodate asylum seekers.
