No lift to borrowing cap hits councils’ homebuilding plans

Ministers have refused to lift the cap on borrowing despite claims it would allow local authorities to build more homes.

The Local Government Association last month pleaded for the Government to allow councils to borrow to invest in housing so they could ‘resume their historic role as a major builder of affordable homes’.
