North Yorkshire looking at care market to tackle ‘rural premium’

North Yorkshire CC is considering intervening in the local care market to tackle soaring costs.

The rural nature of North Yorkshire, with facilities and those receiving home care spread across a wide area, means the council ends up paying £2.5m more each year than in urban areas, officers have calculated.

An additional £2.8m is also spent each year in transporting users to day centres.
