An unregulated private rented sector is the main reason for a rise in homelessness, the mayor of Hackney has suggested.
Giving evidence to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on homelessness yesterday, Philip Glanville said: ‘The key driver [for homelessness] is not family breakdown, it’s not domestic abuse, it’s not being in the wrong-sized property, it’s the ending of those private rented sector tenancies.’
