Another Queen’s Speech. Another pot pourri. There was, however, in Her Majesty’s utterances an important, self-proclaimed key theme namely, using the economy to ‘improve the life chances of the most disadvantaged’. A most welcome and potentially unifying commitment.

But other things continue to baffle. For example, on devolution, HRH said: ‘To spread prosperity, my government will continue to support the development of the Northern Powerhouse’.
