Return of the unitary bandwagon

After seven years of blessed relief, further ad hoc impositions of unitary authorities are back on the agenda.

Having sanctioned a two-unitary option for Dorset, despite the lack of consensus among the authorities concerned, the Government is now to consider the future structure within Northamptonshire, apparently because of its well-publicised financial plight and the issuing of a Section 114 notice.
