Shadow minister quits after council tax row

A former member of the Communities and Local Government Committee has quit Labour’s frontbench after suggesting the doubling of council tax on more valuable homes.

Chris Williamson left his role as shadow fire and emergency services minister after the Conservatives heavily criticised his proposal.
