Shetland Islands' spending 'unsustainable'

Spending at Shetland Islands Council has been labelled ‘unsustainable’ by an external auditor.

Savings have not yet been identified to close a £15.6m funding gap predicted by 2023/24, according to an interim report by auditor Deloitte, while the council has ‘planned an unsustainable draw on reserves of £3.4m’ to cover spending in the current financial year.
