Simmonds could face challenge from county leader

Smith Square’s Conservative group leader, Cllr David Simmonds, is facing a potential leadership challenge from a county council leader, The MJ understands.

County leaders have discussed putting forward a candidate for the Local Government Association’s (LGA) Conservative group elections this summer, amid a growing belief that the figurehead should come from a upper-tier authority facing financial challenges specific to counties.
