Social work Bill exemption revived

Children and families minister Edward Timpson praised ‘inspirational’ councils as he reinstated controversial proposals that would exempt certain local authorities from their statutory responsibilities.

The reinstated Children and Social Work Bill clause, which was defeated by the House of Lords last year, would allow councils to pilot new ways of working.
