Standards split between officers and councillors

Councillors and officers are divided over the future of the standards regime, with politicians backing the existing approach dismissed as a ‘toothless tiger’ by officials.

Submissions to the Committee on Standards in Public Life’s (CSPL) review of ethical standards from the Local Government Association (LGA) and the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives (SOLACE) reveal crucial differences in the system elected members and town hall managers would prefer.
