The secretary of state’s announcement that he is ‘minded to’ go ahead with reorganisation in Dorset and East Suffolk is a shot in the arm for a reorganisation debate that was starting to go stale.
Waveney and Suffolk DCs have, to all intents and purposes, gradually morphed together to create a single ‘mega council’. One step further than the shared chief executive and back office function embraced by many of their local government counterparts, the two authorities have already adopted the ‘East Suffolk’ moniker.
