UN to probe austerity impact on councils

The impact of austerity on local government is to be investigated by the United Nations (UN).

UN special rapporteur Philip Alston, a professor of law at New York University, has asked for written evidence ahead of his November visit to the UK to look into extreme poverty and human rights.
