The under-representation of women in local government over the past 20 years has a ‘systemic impact’ on the sector’s workforce, a senior trade union official has claimed.
Last week the Local Government Commission warned there had been little progress in attracting more women to the sector, with just 33% of councillors and 17% of council leaders female.
