‘Vary funding as required’

Local authorities have been told to vary the Government’s funding formula for schools if they feel the need to do so, the Department for Education’s top official has said.

Giving evidence to the Public Accounts Committee last week, the department’s permanent secretary Jonathan Slater said that councils should apply the funding formula as a rule but should vary it depending on their individual circumstances.
