Waste PFI firm claim for compensation

Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority (GMWDA) faces a compensation claim from its private finance initiative (PFI) contractor after pulling the plug on the £3.2bn deal.

In 2009, the GMWDA signed a 25-year PFI deal with consortium Viridor Laing, under which the contractor was responsible for waste disposal services across nine local authority areas covering 2.3 million residents.
