The Government has admitted the total amount of Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) being distributed in 2026-27 is less than the total in the current financial year.
A consultation response confirmed £723m funding for the DFG for 2026-27 compared to £761m in 2025-26 despite growing demand and expected inflation of 2.5%.
Deputy director for homes at the Centre for Ageing Better charity, Millie Brown, said: ‘Demand greatly outstrips supply. An incredible 12 million people live in homes that do not meet their accessibility needs. Living in a home that meets your accessibility needs is a right everyone should have.'
A council chief executive added: ‘It can't make logical sense to have less funding next year than this.'
