EXCLUSIVE: Future of new homes bonus cast in doubt

The future of the £7bn New Homes Bonus (NHB) is in doubt, after Treasury ministers revealed they believe the policy has failed.

A joint Whitehall-Local Government Association panel set up to shape a new business rates retention scheme convened recently to discuss progress. The panel operates alongside a separate body discussing the fair funding review, and both have had detailed discussions about the sector’s financial arrangements beyond revenue support grant (RSG).
