Independent local government finance commission launched

By Jonathan Werran | 02 June 2014

An independent commission designed to provide recommendations to party manifestos on reforming local government finance will be launched today.

Set up by the Local Government Association (LGA) and the Chartered Institute for Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) , the Commission on Local Government Finance will issue its final recommendations on improving the current system next January.

Chaired by former Ealing LBC chief executive Darra Singh, who is partner in the Government and Public Sector team at big-four consultancy EY, the commission will investigate five key areas, in the context of cutbacks in public service budgets over the next parliament.
