A good record to build on

The Government can be proud of its track record and Bob Neill argues that we should allow it and local government to finish the job they started

As we approach ‘purdah’ and politicians hit the campaign trail up and down Britain, voters are naturally taking stock and contemplating what has been achieved over the past five years and what more each Party and their candidates can offer during the course of the next Parliament.

Britain was not in a good way in 2010. It had the biggest budget deficit in the developed world. Schools were struggling; the welfare system was expensive and inefficient; unemployment was high, national confidence was at rock bottom and there was a real threat to our international credit rating. Not exactly favourable circumstances to enter office.
