The Department for Communities and Local Government has failed to be sufficiently open and transparent in identifying and assessing new burdens on local authorities, a parliamentary watchdog has warned.
A report published yesterday by the public accounts committee (PAC) called on the department to take account of all additional cost pressures and demands facing councils to ensure they have sufficient resources to meet their statutory duties.
