Cities need more control over finances

The Government has made devolution a top priority in the past 12 months – but places still need more incentives and tools to grow their economies

The move to deliver control over healthcare to London announced on Tuesday by George Osborne is another significant milestone in a year in which devolution has been at the heart of the Government’s political agenda – with a host of city-deals now in place for most major UK cities and the recent Spending Review confirming the Government’s plan to devolve business rates to local authorities.
