Clark demands clarity amid threat of EU funds ‘madness’

Communities secretary Greg Clark will press his government bosses to confirm ‘as quickly as possible the continued availability’ of funding for councils post-Brexit.

Speaking at the Local Government Association (LGA) conference in Bournemouth this week, Mr Clark said clarification was ‘essential’ and warned against the ‘madness’ of removing funding from major projects previously backed by Brussels.

Chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), Rob Whiteman, yesterday warned councils faced a further ‘battering’ to their finances and Brexit would only make matters worse.
