Clark settles sector nerves

Large parts of local government breathed a sigh of relief this week after communities secretary Greg Clark promised extra cash in a confirmed finance settlement.

Announcing the settlement on Monday, the secretary of state said there would be an extra £150m transitional fund, which is believed to be coming from unallocated and contingency Department for Communities and Local Government money, which would otherwise have been returned to the Treasury as an underspend.
