Committee mulling over 100% business rates retention plans

Local government finance experts have briefed MPs on the potential impact of proposals to allow councils to retain 100% of business rates by 2020.

Chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, Rob Whiteman, Local Government Association (LGA) chief executive Mark Lloyd and the Institute for Fiscal Studies gave evidence to the communities and local government committee on Monday, as the deadline for written submissions to its business rates inquiry passed.
