Councils hit back at asylum slur

Councils have dismissed a report that suggested they were ‘not pulling their weight’ in resettling Syrian refugees as ‘out of date’.

The Home Affairs Committee report said 1,602 people had been accepted under the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme to March 2016 and claimed there was a ‘two-tier system’ in the level of support local authorities were providing for asylum-seekers.
