Counties eye sheriff idea

Counties seeking devolved powers could be interested in the idea of an elected sheriff, governor or commissioner instead of a mayor, with a number believed to be considering the option.

County leaders, including Essex CC’s David Finch, have given consideration to mayoral alternatives, including the option of an elected sheriff.
