There is a grim reality surrounding children’s social services that, on the whole, we try to avoid admitting: some people are evil – they abuse and kill children.
When that happens there is, quite rightly, an outcry.
The tragedy of a child’s death – particularly a youngster known to social services – is distressing, upsetting and should never happen.
But the aftermath of a child death often leads to a witch hunt of the very people who do all they can to protect children.
