Double whammy to cost councils £1bn

A rising tide of extra costs resulting from a double whammy of changes is forcing councils towards ‘crunch point,’ council chief executives have warned.

According to the latest figures, the sector faces a hit of more than £1bn a year as a result of the new National Living Wage (NLW) and changes to pensions, taking effect in the next few days.
