Government moves to introduce mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse

Councils are braced for reforms to improve the tackling of grooming gangs – including mandatory reporting of suspected child sexual abuse – following intervention from Downing Street.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is visiting Manchester and Leeds today and has announced a string of planned reforms to practises across local authorities and wider public bodies designed to tackle grooming gangs such as those previously exposed in in Rotherham and Rochdale.
