Government tax 'sweetener' ensures 60% council tax freeze

News that the number of councils accepting the Government cash grant to freeze council tax in 2014/15 has remained constant – at 60% – is ‘unsurprising’ given the political and financial pressures applied, experts have claimed.

The comments follow publication of official figures showing a slight dip, from 257 to 251, in the number of English authorities accepting the Government cash sweetener – equivalent to a 1% increase on 2013/14 band D council tax levels.
