Improvements to business rates appeals system proposed

Proposals have been put forward to transform the business rates appeals system, which has been subject to a ‘decades-long deadlock’ from thousands of speculative appeals.

Local government minister Marcus Jones has outlined plans for a more streamlined system to prevent the flood of appeals submitted by agents - many of whom work on a ‘no win-no fee’ basis and often on behalf of businesses who are unaware it is being done.
