IoW to challenge finance settlement

A legal challenge could be launched by Isle of Wight Council over government funding cutbacks following fears the authority could become ‘unviable’ by 2020.

The council had been preparing to save around £10.5m from its 2016/17 budget, but the provisional local government finance settlement has meant the figure has now climbed to £17.4m and around £38m over the next four years.
