Keeping a Keene eye on public health's future

By Sandie Keene | 02 April 2014

I do not have to remind readers of The MJ that this past year has been one of unprecedented change for social care. Reduced funding for local government, integration with health services and forthcoming new legislation all contribute to the burden carried by councils across the land.

Add to this an increasing focus on quality and heightened expectations on the part of the public and we have the potential for meltdown or resurgence in equal measure.

I myself am in the resurgence camp and I like to think that ADASS has played an effective part in ensuring local government has had a clear voice in the debate that has followed real term cuts of 11% in the adult social care budgets and delivery of £2.68bn in savings over the past three years.
