Key Northern Powerhouse champion Lord O’Neill has resigned as commercial secretary to the Treasury, in a further setback to the strategy.
The former Goldman Sachs chief economic said he was pleased that the delivery of the Northern Powerhouse and efforts to build stronger ties with China and India now ‘appear to be’ commanding the ‘personal attention’ of prime minister Theresa May.
