Municipal bonds backed to change sector

Labour’s new shadow chancellor Chris Leslie has backed the creation of the UK’s municipal bonds agency.

Speaking at a round table organised by the New Local Government Network (NLGN) think-tank, Mr Leslie said it was ‘healthy’ for local authorities to have more ownership and involvement in capital finance rather than relying on the Public Works Loan Board, Treasury and taxpayer.
