Raising productivity in the Northern Powerhouse

Whenever you hear the phrase, ‘Northern Powerhouse’, one of the first things that probably comes to mind is transport.

Indeed, when George Osborne first outlined his vision, he emphasised radically overhauling rail and road connections in the North would be the first step – arguing that projects such as HS3 would help places in the region become more than the sum of their parts.
