Santa or the Grinch? No quick fix for fail finances

Nobody expected the chancellor’s Autumn Statement to solve all of local government’s woes – but yet again we’re left looking at a major fiscal event that failed to address a fundamental truth: local government funding is broken.

That is not to say there was absolutely nothing in the statement. The good news included unfreezing the Local Housing Allowance – providing some respite for councils drowning under the weight of homelessness issues, particularly in high-cost urban areas.
