Sheffield city region mayor not ‘a done deal’

Plans for a directly-elected mayor for the Sheffield city region are not a ‘done deal’ despite government comments to the contrary, councillors have claimed.

Speaking last night at a full council meeting, the deputy mayor of Doncaster MBC, Cllr Glyn Jones told members there needed to be a ‘conversation with government as to whether or deal can be done without a mayor,’ which the deputy mayor said was the ‘preferred option’.
