Chief secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander, has signalled his willingness to devolve a raft of property taxes to London - it has emerged.
And in a fringe event at the Liberal Democrat conference in Glasgow yesterday, Mr Alexander, who will serve as vice-chair of the Coalition devolution Committee led by former foreign secretary William Hague, suggested he would push for London’s right to hold onto property revenues to fund infrastructure projects.
Devolution of ‘the full suite of local property taxes’ to the capital was a key recommendation of the London Finance Commission, which reported last year.
