Government hopes Manchester will be 'first of many' after devolution deal

The Government has said it hopes Manchester will be the first of many cities to win greater devolution of powers after reaching an ‘historic’ settlement.

Chair of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), Lord Peter Smith, said it was a ‘momentous’ day for the region after an agreement was struck with chancellor George Osborne.
