A mixed fiscal bag for councils

The chancellor has unveiled a Budget and Spending Review that splashes cash across the UK in a bid to recover from the pandemic. Austerity, we are told, is over, but as with all fiscal events it’s a mixed bag.

Rishi Sunak told Parliament he was handing over £4.8bn over three years to local government, the highest grant in a decade, as part of a plan to strengthen public services.
