A 'one bid per council' approach to high streets cash holds back collaboration

It is well documented that our high streets are currently facing some extreme pressures with decreasing footfall and competition from an increasing preference for online shopping.

It is progressively clear district councils will have a significant role to play in intervening in the market to address their decline, reshaping the offer and transforming the purpose of local high streets. Districts have strong local knowledge and links to local communities and are therefore ideally placed to creatively engage local stakeholders and represent views of local members in pulling together information and knowledge to form regeneration projects which will transform the community environment.
