An open goal on economic growth?

For those who know me, you will realise that Newcastle United’s recent relegation will be playing heavily on my heart. Having supported ‘the Toon’ since my dad first took me at the age of eight, I am used to the ups and downs of football. Unfortunately, there have been too many downs.

This is the first time in my career I am not only concerned in a personal capacity but also in a professional one. From my desk I can just about see the top of St James’ Park. The football club is central to the city skyline and to many of our people. What will be the impact on the local economy and the business rates we collect?
