Avoiding fiscal risks - and 'daddy dragon' moments

JRR Tolkien says in The Hobbit ‘It does not do to leave a dragon out of your calculations, if you live near him.’ Of course this is completely true if the dragon is a big daddy dragon, if however the dragon is a tiny baby dragon or even worse, an invisible egg…how do you know to add the dragon risk to your risk register?

My particular dragon this week surprisingly is not anything to do with Brexit. It is to do with the optimum number of contractors you need to deliver a very complex organisational transformation and how they work together to deliver the required outcomes, add value and avoid future fiscal risks. The risks are always greater when the environment is uncertain and complex because the landscape doesn’t stay still long enough to ensure risk planning and risk review loops are keeping up with the changing pace.
