Communities secretary Greg Clark has highlighted the significance of Theresa May’s appearance in Birmingham on the day of her coronation as David Cameron’s successor.
Speaking at the local government all-party parliamentary group’s summer reception last night, Mr Clark drew attention to Ms May’s campaign speech in the city of Joseph Chamberlain, who created a framework for municipal government that survived intact into the later years of the 20th century.
