Councils braced for fresh cuts

Councils are bracing themselves for a raft of cuts as embattled Prime Minister Liz Truss this week refused to rule out a return to austerity.

Ms Truss had previously promised no cuts but her chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng has now confirmed the Government will not uplift the public spending budgets announced in the October 2021 Spending Review - when inflation was less than half of what it is now.
