Councils should be shouting from the rooftops about UC

I’ve said many times that for the rest of my working life there is no more money as far as public service goes. All the more reason then to spend every penny wisely – drummed into staff here at Doncaster.

And that’s why the implementation of universal credit (UC) is nothing short of a scandal. I’m not arguing against UC per se, more the fact that direct payments to landlords don’t happen at source and claimants do not have basic accounts that allow for standing orders and direct debits – things we take for granted.
