EXCLUSIVE: Jenrick plans intervention to help northern councils

Local government secretary Robert Jenrick is poised to intervene in the fair funding review to ensure northern councils do not end up worse off, The MJ understands.

According to Local Government Association (LGA) modelling of the potential impact of the review on social care, the south-east would be boosted, with the share of funding for working-age adults increasing by 12.4% and by 4.8% for the over-65s.

In contrast, the share of funding for the north-east and north-west would decrease.
